Runway

Runway platform transforms the way beauty products being created. I worked as a part of discovery team and led all design activities on this project.

Context and Background

Estee Louder is an American multinational manufacturer and marketer of prestige skincare, makeup, fragrance and hair care products. The company owns a diverse portfolio of brands, distributed internationally through both digital commerce and retail channels.

Runway platform is settting guidelines for product management process. It standartize procedure of product launch across the company, supports custom workflows, enables extended possibilities to monitor active programs and plan next steps.

System meant to be distributed across brands, regions and affiliates, with some specific adjustments for each.

Scope of Project

My team was challenged to:

  • Define target state Runway platform capabilities and requirements, provide and validate concepts;
  • Develop an MVP solution with foundational capabilities;
  • Enhance platform by capabilities that will be iteratively added using Agile methodology.

Discovery

High level process understanding was communicated by the customer in presentations. Simplified version of the product (POC) with almost no functionality has been made by another team.

First step was to analyse gaps in provided materials, communicate findings to the customer and then recreate missing artifacts. Missing artifacts included data models, interface maps, user journey maps, scenarios, visual guidelines, non-functional requirements.

Design and Development

Design team started with only one member (me) and during the project expanded to maximum of 7 members. I played the role of design team manager and the key point for knowledge transfer.

From the development side the process was organized as several independent streams with fixed milestones as a deadlines. I have been responsible for planning design team activities precisely to stay on track on each stream and provide validated design solutions to start development in time.

Achievements

MVP solution defined and developed in time โ€” this unlocks foundational capabilities of the future system and allows to start tests with customer employees to prioritise scope for future releases

Solid understanding of processes and technical capabilities on the client side is developed. Processes documented and validated, knowledge transfer for employees on EPAM side became much easier.

Design system compliant to the customer digital guidelines created to maintain consistency across the system. It also provides us with the possibility to scale the team quickly in future.

It is clean, easy to use, it is going to be amazing that we now have a one platform to go for all information. โ€” Consumer marketing team

Design as a service

๐Ÿ‘‰ Clear Design Backlog

To make design tasks feasible and easily approachable I collaborate with discovery team closely helping to define goals correctly during discovery phase. This helps us to prioritize features, estimate effort and make clear vision of the future product to the customer.

๐Ÿ”ข Early Estimations

And not only for the design team. By creating simple model of the system (ex. low-fidelity prototype) and defining non-functional requirements, we help developers to estimate effort needed to deliver the product precisely.

โ˜‘๏ธ Task Management

With prioritized backlog and estimations it was easy to manage design team and track progress on each task and the project overall. I communicated progress regularly to control customer expectations and schedule presentations and knowledge transfer sessions efficiently.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Dev-friendly Design Processes

Through constant communication with the dev team I built and maintained design system and accessibility guidelines. Knowing the technology constraints it is always possible to find simple, easy-to-implement design using out-of-the-box components. Design review process allowed me to give more freedom to the dev team and still get consistent results.

Business Class

Free courses for entrepreneurs that engage interaction with Google Marketing Platform.

Context and Background

Business Class is online business-educational platform for Google Russia. Among the main communication tasks of the program itself were raising general awareness of the project, attracting the target audience to participate in the program and promoting entrepreneurship in Russia.

  • to build new version of the platform from the scratch using google material as a design system;
  • introduce some additional functionality and evaluate the impact (add new content, introduce course catalog, course progress, quizes and tests, smart search)
  • migrate users from old platform to the new one
  • validate number of hypothesis on the landing page, maximise registration conversion rate
  • improve key product metrics

Discovery

Through the rapid discovery phase discovery team developed a solid understanding of an MVP scope, created clear vision of the system using maps and prototypes, prioritized features, defined roadmap of the product.

Next phase was to iteratively add functionality using agile methodology and run A/B tests using Google Optimize.

Achievements

Business Class now is a public platform with about 10,000 daily average users.

It is also a beautiful example of adaptive web app with focus on the seamless and responsive user experience and good market fit.

I lead all UX activities on a project always having precise strategy, plan, estimations, knowing risks and making steps ahead to make the process smoother. We managed to build good relations with the stakeholders, taking a lot of actions to control their expectations. On this project I took responsibility on some PM and BA activities if needed aloing with delivering UX artifacts, helping to develop fine quality product in short time.

We managed to build strong team, by inspiring team members with own passion to build the best product on market.

Data-driven design

A/B Testing

A series of experiments has been set to validate list of hypotezis. Every change in design was firstly tested on small audience before passing to the production. Using Google Analyticts and Optimize as a main platform for experiments alowed us to gather important information about the product and make changes.

Genosity

Genosity is the integrated suite of digital solutions that deliver the full chain of functionality required by clinical genomics organizations.

We have maintained constant interaction with subject matter experts through interview and demo sessions.

On this project I led a design team of 6+ members, building and maintaining design system as well as simultaneously supplying approved prototypes to several development streams.

A design review process was introduced to maintain consistency across the entire product ecosystem.

Discovery

Since we havenโ€™t had any end-users in the project we collected information about project working with customers and SMEโ€™s.

A number of UX-artifacts have been created to validate and document our understanding of processes and then pass our vision to the development team.
